JUNE 2018 PILOT PROGRAM
We held our first camp for kids aged 8 to 15 in partnership with the Synergia community program in Los Naranjos, Puerto Rico
Elio Morillo was born in Ecuador, spent his childhood in Puerto Rico, and graduated high school in NYC. He completed his undergraduate career as a mechanical engineer, with a minor in electrical engineering, as well as a masters in systems engineering & design at the University of Michigan. Elio is now a Mars 2020 System Testbed Engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory verifying avionics, payloads, and software, to ensure that operations on route and on the surface of Mars are fully characterized. Elio is passionate about alternative transportation systems, improved national security measures, and providing affordable access to space.
Nicole Gonzalez Cejo grew up in northern Virginia and comes from a large, close-knit Cuban and Puerto Rican family. She earned her bachelor's degree from Princeton University in Electrical Engineering with a certificate in Robotics and Intelligent Systems. She is now a Flight Electronics Engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory where she develops electronic systems for both the Mars 2020 and Psyche exploration missions. Nicole is passionate about increasing parity of access to safe, clean, reliable technology.
We set out to empower kids of the Los Naranjos community to pursue STEM paths. Marisa Rojas from Sinergia and her husband Ricardo are the true warriors that keep fighting for the reconstruction and progress of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Thanks to the incredible support we received from them and our sponsors, the first year of “Ingenieros del Futuro” was a success!
We are in the process of planning our expansion of the program. Please contact us directly for our lesson plans. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, providing materials, volunteering, or developing STEM workshops for the program, we would love to hear from you!
